Substack

Easiest export
✨ Good news for free publications
If your Substack posts are publicly available (free to read), Prosed can pull your content automatically — you don't need to export anything. Just submit your Substack name in the questionnaire.

If your posts are paid/paywalled, follow these steps:

1
Open your Substack dashboard

Go to substack.com and sign in to your publication.

2
Go to Settings → Basics

Click your profile icon (top right) → Settings → scroll to the bottom of the Basics tab.

substack.com → SettingsBasics → scroll to bottom
3
Click "Export your data"

You'll see a section called Export your data. Click Export. Substack will email you a download link within a few minutes.

4
Download and open the ZIP file

The ZIP contains a posts/ folder with every post as an individual HTML file — including paid posts.

5
Send us the ZIP file

Email the full ZIP to hello@tryprosed.com with the subject line: Substack export — [your name]. We'll take it from there.

✅ What you'll get
A ZIP file containing all your posts in HTML format, including subscriber-only content. Prosed reads these files directly — no extra formatting needed.

Any format works

Don't see your platform? No problem — here's what we can work with:

Accepted formats

Copy-pasted text — select all your posts and paste into a Google Doc or Word file. We clean it up.
PDF — export each post as a PDF or compile them into one. Any PDF is fine.
Google Doc — share a Google Doc (view access) with all your content collected. One doc or multiple docs both work.
Notion export — Notion → Settings → Export → Markdown & CSV. Send the ZIP.
Any ZIP of HTML or Markdown files — if your platform exports individual post files, send us the whole ZIP.
Direct links — if your content is publicly available online, send us a list of URLs. We can pull them automatically.
💡 Not sure what to send?
Just email us at hello@tryprosed.com and describe your setup. We'll figure it out together — we've seen every format imaginable.

Ready to send your content?

Once you've exported, email your files to us. We'll take it from there and have your book draft ready within 48 hours.
